HSIA’s New Radar System Now Covers Entire Bangladesh Airspace Bangladesh has taken a major leap in aviation technology as the newly installed radar system at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is now capable of covering the entire national airspace. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, this advanced system significantly enhances the country’s ability to monitor and manage aircraft movements across all regions. This development marks a critical upgrade in Bangladesh’s air traffic control capabilities, replacing older, limited-range radar systems with modern, high-performance technology. Full CNS/ATM Implementation Strengthens Control The radar system is part of the broader CNS/ATM (Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management) project. With this upgrade, air traffic controllers can now track flights across the entire sky of Bangladesh in real time. Key improvements include: Nationwide radar coverage for better monitoring Improved communication between aircraft and control towers Faster response to emergencies or unexpected situations Reduced dependency on foreign radar data This ensures Bangladesh has full sovereignty over its own airspace monitoring. Third Terminal Radar to Go Live Soon The radar system will also support operations at the upcoming Third Terminal (T3) of HSIA. Authorities confirmed that additional system components linked to T3 are expected to be fully operational by December. This integration will be crucial as the new terminal is expected to handle a significantly higher number of passengers and flights, positioning Dhaka as a key regional aviation hub. Enhanced Safety and Efficiency for Airlines With full airspace coverage, airlines flying over Bangladesh will benefit from: More accurate route planning Reduced flight delays Enhanced safety through continuous monitoring Better coordination with international aviation systems This upgrade aligns Bangladesh with global aviation standards and improves confidence among international carriers. A Big Step Toward Smart Aviation Infrastructure The introduction of a nationwide radar system reflects Bangladesh’s commitment to modernizing its aviation infrastructure. As air traffic continues to grow, having a robust and technologically advanced monitoring system is essential. Industry experts believe this move will not only improve operational efficiency but also support economic growth by strengthening connectivity, tourism, and global trade.
