The services were officially inaugurated on Monday afternoon through a virtual event. The chief guest was Mohammad Anwar Uddin, project director of Aspire to Innovate (a2i) and additional secretary. The event was chaired by Shameem Ahmed, director general of the Military Lands and Cantonments Directorate, who also spoke. Md Kamrul Hasan, joint secretary of the e-governance sub-branch of the Cabinet Division and joint project director of a2i, attended as special guest.
Sheikh Jahidul Islam, director (administration and education) of the directorate, Md Abdul Karim, cantonment executive officer of Rajshahi Cantonment Board, and Sheheli Laila, executive officer of Savar Cantonment Board, also spoke at the event. Officials of the directorate and a2i, along with the executive officers of 13 cantonment boards, took part. The services were added to MyGov at the initiative of the Military Lands and Cantonments Directorate under the Ministry of Defence, and the initiative was implemented under the overall supervision of the Cabinet Division with the cooperation of a2i.
Under the new arrangement, service recipients can submit applications from home, pay the applicable fees online and collect QR code-bearing certificates.
They will also be able to track the progress of applications and share feedback on the services. Relevant documents can be verified using the QR codes.
The services now on MyGov include citizenship, inheritance, character and family certificates, trade licences, identity card-related services, water and electricity connections, and vehicle passes. Road-cutting or excavation permits, rickshaw, van and auto-rickshaw licences, permission to keep pets and developer registration services are also included.
Organisers said that under the previous system, applicants had to visit the cantonment board office to submit applications, deposit necessary documents, pay fees and collect certificates. Even a single service often required multiple visits, costing extra time and money and causing hardship. The initiative aims to ease services and reduce such problems.
The initiative began in February 2025, when two services of Dhaka Cantonment Board were first added to MyGov as a pilot. The remaining 14 boards were then brought online. In March, 63 types of citizen services were reviewed in three workshops and 19 basic services were identified. Seven regional workshops later finalised the online application forms, service fees and service-delivery procedures. In August and September, 140 officers and staff received hands-on training.
The cantonment boards will be able to receive, verify, investigate, process and settle applications on the same platform. Organisers said the move is aimed at reducing paper dependence in official work and increasing transparency and accountability in service management.
