Tim Cook's 15-year chapter as Apple's chief executive officer came to an end on 31 August 2026. In a message posted on X, Cook wrote that on his final day as Apple's CEO he had much love for everyone in the Apple family. “My title will change tomorrow, but my love for the Apple family will never change. You have always been my source of inspiration,” he said.

Cook took charge as Apple's CEO in August 2011, succeeding co-founder Steve Jobs, who stepped down from the post because of illness. At the time he took over, Cook was 50 years old.

John Ternus, Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, has succeeded Tim Cook as Apple's CEO. Ternus is 50 years old.

Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella was born on 19 August 1967 in Hyderabad, India, and is now an American citizen. He was appointed Microsoft's CEO in 2014 and has also served as the company's chairman since 2021.

Virginia (Ginni) Rometty became the first woman to head IBM, serving as its chairman, president and CEO. She retired on 31 December 2020 after a 40-year professional career. Rometty was born on 29 July 1957 in Chicago, United States.

Facebook co-founder Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born 14 May 1984) is now the chairman and CEO of Facebook and its parent company Meta. In 2008 he was recognised as the world's youngest self-made billionaire.

Sheryl Sandberg, an American tech executive, philanthropist and author, was born on 28 August 1969 in Washington, DC. She is Meta's chief operating officer and was the first woman elected to Facebook's board of directors. Sandberg previously held a senior post at Google, was named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in 2012, and is the author of the notable book “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead”.

Marissa Mayer was born on 30 May 1975 in Wisconsin, United States. She was the first female engineer hired at Google and one of the first 20 employees to join the company in 1999. From 2012 to 2017 she served as president and CEO of Yahoo, and later co-founded the tech startup Sunshine Contacts.

Chinese entrepreneur and Alibaba Group executive chairman Jack Ma was born on 10 September 1964 in Hangzhou, China. A leading businessman, investor and philanthropist, he is also a co-founder of Chinese private equity firm Yunfeng Capital. Ma was the first person from mainland China featured in a cover story by Forbes magazine, and in 2009 Time magazine recognised him as one of the world's 100 most influential people.

Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, is an Indian-American citizen born on 14 July 1973 in the United States. Before joining Google he worked at Accenture, NetGravity and DoubleClick. He was appointed YouTube's CEO in 2023, and in December 2025 Time magazine named him “CEO of the Year”.
